An open architectural competition organised by the Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland for the design of a new public building on center pier in Galway.
A long and slender building is invisaged a appropriately addressing spatial requirements of the rather narrow, elongated platform. In it's size and plan form the proposed building resembles a ship docked in the Galway Harbour.
By locating the building close to the water's edge, along the East Dock, a generous public space can be opened between the building and the yacht basin to the west. The Building's form is informed primarily by the maritime character of the area, as well as by the spatial and functional requirements of the competition brief.
